Quick answer Updated October 2026 · Reviewed by UAE ERP Experts consultants

Is Zoho Books suitable for UAE VAT and how is it implemented?

Zoho Books is Zoho's online accounting application, and its UAE edition supports 5% VAT, tax invoices carrying your TRN, AED as base currency and bilingual Arabic/English templates. A proper implementation sets up the chart of accounts, standard, zero-rated and exempt tax rates, reverse charge on imports and opening balances. UAE ERP Experts, a Zoho Premium Partner, handles setup, migration and training.

  • Zoho Books produces a VAT return report organised along the lines of the FTA return, including emirate-wise sales.
  • The VAT return itself is still submitted by the business on the FTA's EmaraTax portal.
  • Masters, opening balances and open invoices can be migrated from Tally, QuickBooks or spreadsheets.
  • A single-company Zoho Books setup with clean data often takes a few weeks including training.

Cloud accounting that fits how UAE businesses work

Zoho Books is Zoho's online accounting application, and its UAE edition is built around local requirements: 5% VAT, tax invoices with your TRN, AED as the base currency and bilingual Arabic/English invoice templates. For many SMEs in Dubai, Sharjah and Abu Dhabi, it is the first step away from spreadsheets or desktop accounting.

The software is straightforward to sign up for, but a good implementation is about the details. Chart of accounts, tax rates for standard, zero-rated and exempt supplies, reverse charge on imports, designated zone treatment, opening balances and user roles all need to be right from day one. Getting them wrong usually shows up later as a messy VAT return.

We set up Zoho Books around your actual transactions, migrate your history from Tally, QuickBooks or Excel, connect your bank accounts and train your team. Where you need stock control or CRM, we link Zoho Books to Zoho Inventory and Zoho CRM so the numbers flow without re-keying.

What we configure

Zoho Books features we set up for UAE companies

Each area is configured to your transactions, not left on defaults.

VAT setup and returns

Tax rates for standard, zero-rated and exempt supplies, reverse charge and emirate-wise reporting, so the VAT return report lines up with what you file on EmaraTax.

Multi-currency

Invoice and pay suppliers in USD, EUR, INR or other currencies while reporting in AED, with exchange rate handling and realized gain or loss postings.

Banking feeds and reconciliation

Bank feeds or statement imports for your UAE accounts, with matching rules that make daily reconciliation a short routine rather than a month-end chore.

Inventory link

Basic item tracking inside Zoho Books, or a connection to Zoho Inventory for warehouses, batches, serial numbers and order fulfillment.

Approvals and controls

Approval workflows for invoices, bills and expenses, plus user roles that limit who can create, approve or delete transactions.

Reports and dashboards

Profit and loss, balance sheet, receivables aging and VAT reports, with custom reports and reporting tags for branches, projects or cost centers.

How It Works

How a Zoho Books implementation runs

Most SME rollouts follow these steps; timing depends on data volume and how many entities you have.

01

Review and plan

We look at your current books, VAT position, bank accounts and reporting needs, then agree the chart of accounts and cut-over date.

02

Configure the organization

Tax settings, invoice templates in English and Arabic, currencies, branches, user roles and approval rules are set up and checked against sample transactions.

03

Migrate your data

Customers, vendors, items, opening balances and open invoices are moved from Tally, QuickBooks or Excel, then reconciled to your trial balance.

04

Connect banks and apps

Bank feeds, payment gateways and links to Zoho Inventory or Zoho CRM are set up and tested.

05

Train and go live

Your accountants and approvers are trained on daily work and the VAT return process, and we support the first month-end close.

UAE Compliance Built In

UAE regulations covered in every Zoho Books UAE project

We configure the system for the rules UAE businesses report against, and test it before go-live.

FAQs

Zoho Books UAE: common questions

Still have a question? Our consultants are happy to help.

Ask an Expert
Does Zoho Books support UAE VAT returns?

Yes. The UAE edition of Zoho Books handles VAT on sales and purchases and produces a VAT return report organized along the lines of the FTA return, including emirate-wise sales. You still submit the return on EmaraTax, but the figures come straight from your books. We recommend your tax advisor reviews the setup for any unusual transactions.

Can we move from Tally or QuickBooks to Zoho Books?

Yes. We typically migrate masters (customers, vendors, items, chart of accounts), opening balances and open invoices and bills. Full transaction history can also be moved where it is needed, though many companies keep older years archived in the old system. Every migration is reconciled to the trial balance before go-live.

Can Zoho Books issue Arabic and English invoices?

Yes. Invoice templates can show both English and Arabic text, and we customize them with your TRN, logo and the details required on a UAE tax invoice.

Is Zoho Books enough, or do we need a full ERP?

For service companies and many traders, Zoho Books with Zoho Inventory covers accounting, stock and VAT well. If you need manufacturing, complex multi-company consolidation or deep warehouse control, a broader ERP such as Zoho One, Odoo or Business Central may suit you better. We can help you compare options honestly.

How long does a Zoho Books setup take?

A single-company setup with clean data often takes a few weeks, including migration and training. Multiple entities, large transaction histories or custom integrations take longer. We give you a realistic plan after reviewing your data.
