Should a UAE mid-sized company choose Dynamics 365 Business Central or SAP Business One?

For UAE mid-market companies, Dynamics 365 Business Central and SAP Business One target the same segment, so the choice rests on ecosystem and delivery. Business Central is mainly Microsoft-hosted SaaS tied into Microsoft 365, Teams and Power BI, growing towards Dynamics 365 Finance. SAP B1 is more often on-premise or partner-hosted, growing towards S/4HANA. Partner quality matters as much as the product.

  • Both Business Central and SAP Business One are sold and implemented through partners.
  • Business Central has an on-premise option, but Microsoft's focus is the SaaS version.
  • SAP B1 to Dynamics 365 moves usually migrate summary history, archiving detailed transactions.
  • UAE ERP Experts implements Business Central but does not implement SAP Business One.

A head-to-head between two established vendors

When a UAE company compares Dynamics 365 vs SAP Business One UAE, it is usually comparing Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central with SAP B1. Both target the same segment: companies with roughly 10 to a few hundred users that need finance, purchasing, sales, inventory and some production in one system. Both come from global vendors and both are sold and implemented through partners.

The practical differences are about ecosystem and delivery. Business Central is primarily a Microsoft-hosted SaaS service that sits next to Microsoft 365, Teams, Excel, Power BI and Power Automate. SAP B1 is more often deployed on a server the company or partner manages, with a cloud option through partners. Each has a growth path: Business Central toward Dynamics 365 Finance and Supply Chain Management, SAP B1 toward SAP S/4HANA.

We are a Microsoft Partner for Dynamics 365, and we do not implement SAP Business One. We do handle SAP Business One to Dynamics 365 migrations, so many of the observations below come from projects where clients made that move. Where SAP B1 is the better fit, we say so.

Decision factors

Where the decision is usually made

Most shortlists come down to these six practical questions rather than feature lists.

Microsoft 365 as your workplace

If staff already live in Outlook, Teams and Excel, Business Central feels like an extension of daily tools. Approvals in Teams and Excel editing of journals save time for finance teams.

Reporting culture

Companies that want management packs in Power BI find Business Central's native connectors simple to use. SAP B1 shops on HANA have strong analytics too, but often need partner help to build them.

IT ownership

Business Central SaaS removes server maintenance. SAP B1 on-premise keeps your data on your own hardware, which some owners prefer, but needs backups, patches and remote access managed by someone.

Change cadence

Business Central updates arrive on Microsoft's schedule, so testing becomes a regular habit. SAP B1 upgrades are less frequent and planned as projects, which some teams find easier to control.

Production in the base license

SAP B1 includes production in its standard scope. In Business Central, manufacturing sits in the Premium license, so price your production users carefully.

Where you want to be in five years

A group planning several countries and complex supply chains should look at the step up to Dynamics 365 Finance and SCM or S/4HANA, and which jump looks more realistic for them.

UAE Compliance

UAE regulatory points to test

Ask your shortlisted partners to demonstrate these with UAE examples, and confirm the tax treatment with your tax advisor.

VAT and tax invoices

Check posting groups or tax codes for 5% standard, zero-rated, exempt and reverse-charge imports, and confirm the bilingual tax invoice layout carries every prescribed field including TRN.

FTA register and audit file

The FTA publishes a Tax Accounting Software Register. Check it yourself for the specific product and version, and ask each partner how an FTA Audit File is produced from their system.

Corporate tax and free zones

At 9% above AED 375,000 of taxable income, corporate tax needs clean dimension or cost center tagging. Qualifying Free Zone Persons should separate qualifying income from day one.

E-invoicing timeline

From 1 January 2027 for businesses with revenue of AED 50 million or more, and 1 July 2027 for others, invoices must be exchanged in PINT AE through an Accredited Service Provider. Ask both partners for their ASP approach and check the latest MoF and FTA guidance.

FAQs

Dynamics 365 vs SAP Business One questions

Still have a question? Our consultants are happy to help.

Ask an Expert
Is Business Central the direct competitor to SAP Business One?

Yes, in most UAE shortlists. Both target small and mid-sized companies. Dynamics 365 Finance and Supply Chain Management competes higher up, closer to SAP S/4HANA.

Can Business Central run on our own server like SAP B1?

An on-premise deployment option exists, but Microsoft's focus is the SaaS version, and most new UAE projects we see choose SaaS. Confirm the current on-premise licensing terms with your partner.

Will we lose history moving from SAP B1 to Dynamics 365?

Usually only summary history is migrated, such as opening balances and open documents, with optional monthly balances for comparatives. Detailed SAP B1 transactions are kept in a read-only archive.

Do you also support SAP Business One?

No. Our Dynamics 365 team implements Business Central and related Microsoft apps. For SAP B1 work you need an SAP partner, although we are happy to give an independent comparison.

Which is better for Arabic documents?

Both can produce Arabic and English invoices with the right report layouts. Ask to see your own tax invoice, delivery note and customer statement printed in each system before deciding.

How long does a Business Central rollout take?

A finance, purchasing, sales and inventory rollout often takes around 10 to 16 weeks. Manufacturing, multiple companies or complex integrations commonly extend that.
